Well, I'm fairly well read in theologians. My wife is in seminary, and I
spend three days a week up there. With my philosophy background, &
Catholic university training, theology usually comes pretty easy.
But, that statement wasn't really theological. It was a social work
statement. At that time, the importance of hygine to health was becoming
well established. He was promoting cleanliness for health to coal miners
and other poor workers with that statement.
