Sounds about right.

So can you think of any e-mail program he might be able to download 
from the web which would give him more features without having too 
steep a learning curve?  I wouldn't be too much help even if we were 
talking about Windows:  I started off doing what you suspect he is 
doing using Netscape and then heard about Eudora and tried it when it 
was in about v. 3 and have stayed with it ever since for something 
like 10 years or more, and am very disappointed that it is being 
abandoned . . . :(
